Celtic dominated the first half but could not find a way past a resolute Rangers defence.
The second half continued in much the same vein, with Rangers defending deep and Celtic struggling to create clear-cut chances.
However, with time running out, Idah popped up with a brilliant finish to snatch victory for Celtic.
The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Celtic players and fans, who had endured a nervy 90 minutes.
It was a cruel blow for Rangers, who had also been hoping to complete a domestic double.
However, Celtic deserved their victory on the balance of play.
