Alexander Zverev French Open

Zverev Returns from Brink to Reach French Open Last-16

German Tennis Star Gutted Out a Five-Set Thriller

Zverev Survives Another Paris Scare, Reaches Semi-Finals

Fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev rallied from 4-1 down in the fifth set to beat 26th-seeded Botic van de Zandschulp 5-7, 6-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a marathon four-hour clash at the French Open on Tuesday. The German star, who reached the semi-finals in Paris last year, saved three break points at 2-4 in the decider and broke his opponent twice to secure a nervy victory.

Zverev, who is chasing his first Grand Slam title, will now face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals. Alcaraz, who has been in impressive form this season, beat Karen Khachanov in straight sets to reach the last eight.

Zverev's win over van de Zandschulp was his second five-set victory in a row at Roland Garros. He also needed five sets to beat Sebastian Korda in the first round.

The German is now 4-0 against van de Zandschulp in their head-to-head meetings.
