Aegon II Targaryen Ascends the Iron Throne in Fire and Blood

The Dance of the Dragons Rages On

The Battle of Rook's Rest Claims a Dragon and a Rider

In the wake of the epic Battle of Rook's Rest, the Dance of the Dragons continues to rage across Westeros. King Aegon II Targaryen, the sixth of his line to claim the Iron Throne, has emerged victorious, but at a grave cost. Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen who Never Was, has met her untimely demise, while Aegon himself lies gravely injured.

The battle, a clash between the forces of the greens (led by Aegon II) and the blacks (loyal to his half-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen), was one of the most pivotal in the history of the Dance. Rhaenys, riding her dragon Meleys, attempted a bold attack on the greens' stronghold, but her efforts were met with disaster. Archers felled Meleys with a hail of arrows, and Rhaenys was thrown from her mount to her death.

Aegon, also riding a dragon, engaged in a fierce aerial duel with Rhaenys's son, Prince Jacaerys Velaryon. In the chaos of the battle, both dragons crashed to the ground. Aegon was badly injured but managed to escape with his life. Jacaerys, however, was not so fortunate. He was captured by the greens and later executed.

The Battle of Rook's Rest was a major turning point in the Dance of the Dragons. With Rhaenys dead and Aegon injured, the blacks' cause has suffered a significant setback. The greens now control the Iron Throne, but their hold on power remains tenuous. The war is far from over, and the fate of Westeros hangs in the balance.
